So here you will learn how to use plugins in your WordPress site. The WordPress Plugin is a software that add services or features of WordPress website/blog. It can be uploaded to expand the functionality of the site. These plugins make your work easier by allowing you to easily modify, customize or enhance your WordPress blog or post.
These are the following 5 simple steps how to add plugins –
First Step −
On the left side check at Dashboard menu, Click on Plugins → Installed Plugins as shown in the screen.
After clicking on installed plugins you will see the following page appearing on your screen. Here you can search for the desired plugins and add in to install. For instance you can view the already Akismet installed plugin.
Third Step − Click on → Plugins → Add New menu as shown in the following screen.
Fourth Step − Here you can directly install plugins from the available list or you can upload it by clicking on Upload Plugin. If some some plugins are not available you can download from here.
If you have already downloaded and click on Upload Plugin you’ll get the following page. Click on Browse, it will back to the page where you can select plugins from WordPress site.
But if you click on Choose File, it will go to your system and you can add files from your computer. Or you choose the desired plugin and click on Install now as seen in the following screenshot.
When you click on Install Now, the package will start downloading and will get installed. Then, click on Activate plugin to active that plugin to use in WordPress as seen in the following screen.
When you have activated your Plugin you’ll get a message as Plugin activated and you will find the installed plugin in the plugins list.
Also you will see message in the plugin section as All, Active, Inactive and Update available. For example when you click on Active all the activated plugins will appear in the page with their names and short description about each of them. You can see it in the screen below.
Now when we click on Inactive, the plugins which are available but are not activated gets displayed with their names and short description about each of them. You can activate this plugin by clicking on Activate. You can see it in the screen below.
And when you click on Update available, you’ll get a list of plugins that must be updated. Click on Update then you’ll get a message as Updated.
You can update each plugins individually or you can click on Bulk Actions to get all the plugins simultaneously. You can also click on Apply button to update, delete, activate or deactivate each of the plugins by checking the boxes.
If you need to add a new plugin(eg. WP Super Cache) you can just type in the text box in Search Installed Plugins and click on the Search Installed Plugins button.
When you click on the Search installed Plugin button you get the following page with your respective plugin (eg. WP Super Cache).
Fifth Step − Click on Plugins → Editor from the side bar if you need to edit anything.
When you click on the Editor you will see this page displayed to you.
Now you can edit plugins. A few options are explained.
- Select plugin to edit − Allows you to select a plugin from the dropdown and edit it.
- Documentation − Allows you to select the tools from the dropdown to edit the plugin.
- Plugin files − Allows you to select files from the list and edit accordingly.
When you have edited the plugin files, click on Update file. Now you are done with plugins.
